The Senate, in a rare show of intelligence, defeated a move by Senator
Ted Stevens of Alaska to open up the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to
oil drilling. Senator, what part of *refuge* did you not understand?

The disgraceful thing about it is that he tried to attach it to the
defense appropriations bill.

Strange but I was struggling with this, I had seen the news reports on
the attempt to open up the ANWR but I also got an email from Ducks
Unlimited requesting it's members contact certain legislators to pass
the bill because it supposedly contained $1,000,000,000 for
conservation purposes.

Being a good American citizen, I did nothing.

And the positive thing was that the ambush of that old fool was put together
by Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington, a rising star from the Westcoast,
who along with our other lady Senator, a brave few conservationist
Republicans and the "Girls from Maine" and California, offer the hope that
the asshole factor and stench of corruption in the Senate can be reduced.

It took guts to stand up against the bull**** effort to make anyone
interested in responsible care of ANWR look 'unpatriotic' and I, personally,
am going to call both the 'girls from California' and thank them

"Destroying this wilderness will do very little to reduce energy costs nor
does it do very much for oil independence," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein,
D-Calif.

ALL Republicans may not be sleezes, ( for Tim and rd
but the ones that use scumball tactics like this failed effort,
or the popular with this administration,
" pass 'let's **** 'em some more' legislation on Friday late hoping to not
be noticed" tactic
( IF YOU ARE REALLY "doing the right thing" ...WHY would you want to avoid
being noticed? )

are at the bottom of the polluted smelly barrel of subhumans known as
politicians

The asshole factor will only be eliminated, IMHO, when term limits are
instituted for all politicians, including those who are appointed as well
as those who are elected. You may get one for, say two terms, but the day
of the 30 year, well entrenched politician will be over.
