Here's a post I wrote in another newsgroup about noodling:

You won't even need a fishing pole in Missouri now:

Missouri approves fishing with bare hands

"Fishing with bare hands" is an oxymoron. In actual fishing, the fish
chooses to bite/strike.

December 28, 2004

COLUMBIA, Mo. --Next summer, it will be legal to plunge into some
Missouri rivers and grab catfish by hand -- a type of fishing that is
not for the faint of heart.

Known variously as noodling or hogging, handfishing has long been a
misdemeanor punishable by fines, because state officials fear it
depletes breeding-age catfish.

It can also be dangerous: Noodlers hold their breath for long periods
under water and sometimes come up with fistfuls of agitated snakes or
snapping turtles instead of fish.

Let the ****ers Darwinize themselves. A big catfish can hold a human
underwater long enough to drown the ****er. I root for the fish.
There are plenty of stories about deaths and injuries to noodlers. One

involved a man with a missing hand; in place of his hand, he had a
Captain Hook style hook to grab the fish. He grabbed a 50+ pound
catfish who swam into deep water and held him underwater. Eventually
they found the catfish, dead, washed up on shore with the hook still in

the fish; the man had become detached. The story is sad only because
the poor fishy died.

Catfish have bone-crushing jaws; they can easily clamp down and break
wrists. They also have sharp spines. They have thousands of tiny gum
teeth that remove skin. One noodler stuck his arm in a catfish's
mouth; when he wrested his arm free, all his skin was peeled off from
elbow to fingers.

That does not discourage enthusiasts, who insist there is great
sportsmanship in fishing with your bare hands.

Missouri's biological concerns are that handfishers, who go for the
biggest fish they can wrestle from riverbanks or hollow logs, will

take
too many sexually mature fish from their underwater nests.

Obviously, it's not sporting at all to reach into a den where an animal

is trapped. It's almost as unsporting as the Canucks (and the ugly
American "hunters" who go to Canada) who go into caves and shoot
hibernating bears, orphaning the cubs. A lot of the sissy human
noodlers have ropes tied to them so the rednecks on shore can pull them

out if they stay underwater too long.

Howard Ramsey of Paris, Mo., president of Noodlers Anonymous, said

the
season is a "very positive step."

This ****er wrote letters to all the regional outdoors media, trying to

rationalize the activity. His reasons were full of lies, including the

standard anti-predator propaganda. He claimed the numbers of large
catfish need to be culled because big cats eat lots of other gamefish.
As with most/all predators, big cats thin and improve the herd of
overpopulated and sick rough fish, including invasive species such as
carp. Big catfish are important to the ecosystem, as are all native
species on the top of the food pyramid. The easiest way to tell if an
agency is f---ed up is if they allow the murder of predators, for
example the Alaska practice of shooting wolves from airplanes (I hope
those planes crash, killing everyone on board, and that the pussy
paleface "hunters" who shoot Alaska caribou die of diseases in the
caribou flesh caused by the sick/weak prey not being killed by the
wolves).

"I hope this is the first step toward a statewide noodling season,"
Ramsey said. "Noodling is great fun and very satisfying and any lover
of fishing should try it."

Noodling is not fishing. Fishing is a sport only when the fish is a
willing participant. However, if the result is Darwinization, the more

rednecks who try it, the better. If a noodler is injured but not
killed, I don't want one cent of my state or federal tax dollars paying

for his/her hospital care because it's a bed-made-lie injury.

"Murder" of predators? You are mentally ill.
