Could someone please recommend a list of the best materials to use for the
bodies of dry flies.

Any material that wraps around the hook and survives some water will do.

Foam
Peacock herl
Quill
Goose biots
Fur
Dubbingmixtures
Floss
Tying thread
Tinsel
Cellophane
Candy Bar Wrappers

I like aquatic mammal fur. Beaver is my favorite, with muskrat right behind.
