Default 600+ fly fishing venues in the UK

Over the years I have got increasingly frustrated at not being able to
find info on places to flyfish so for my sins I am now building a
datababase of all the fly fishing venues in the UK. Currently I have
basic location details on over 650 lakes, rivers and streams and I am
adding more every day. I am also adding more detailed information to
each venue to enable intelligent searching (eg where can I sneak off to
on my way back up the M5 from that meeting in Exeter? Or where can I
actually find some grayling?).

There are other such 'places to fish' sites I know and some of the
Scottish ones are really very good, but none covering England & Wales
is aimed specifically at flyfishing, none is anywhere near complete
(particularly regarding rivers) and none provides intelligent
searching.

You can see how I am getting on at www.FlyFishingVenues.co.uk So far I
have got up to the letter G in terms of adding the detail but I expect
to finish within a few weeks.

I would really welcome any suggestions for venues to include
(especially rivers), any corrections to the information I have and any
feedback regarding the features of the site, ease of use etc...

Thanks in advance
Chris Loveys

For the benefit of all users, the SEARCH menu
should probably indicate which boxes are mandatory
(require some information) and which are not.

Non-British users may need to be reminded that most
British fly fishing must be paid for, whether by a
day-ticket or a season's membership.

Yes indeed. I hope no boxes are mandatory but I put my favorite of all
English Welsh rivers in , the Barle, and got nothing.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually no individual field is mandatory but
it does require you to enter something somewhere (seems reasonable,
logical etc).

I have added brief details re the Barle (the one in Somerset / Devon,
not Wales) and will return to fully research it soon. Rivers are more
difficult to research than stillwater fisheries so please bear with me.
I WILL get round to them (I much prefer flyfishing in rivers and
streams than on lakes).

No, no - please leave it out. Keep it quiet.

I caught my first salmon there, on a trout rod, on the last day of the
season, and as I was killing it saw a cepe/porcini/penny bun mushroom
in the moss on the bank. Collected my girlfriend from the London train
that night and the following day we picked hundreds which, dried, kept
us going for years.

Good luck

Er, no. I was making a smart-assed comment about your having posted
_further_ details about an area you seemingly didn't want publicised.
IOW, it isn't the best policy to tempt people to areas to which you
don't want them tempted.
