Trolling Motor
I'm getting a new boat and I'm once again the the trolling motor market. I
thought that it would be a no-brainer, just drop a MinnKota on the front and be done with it, but that's not the case at all. First of all, I'll be looking at a motor with major "pulling power" and because of an old back injury, any of the cable "push/pull" steering systems are out. I like the stow/deploy system for these type motors though, grab the rope and give a yank, in comes the motor. BUT, my back is just screaming after a very short time with the high foot pedal. I know I could have a recessed panel installed in the deck, but because I'm still guiding, I like the soft cable system like the MinnKota PowerDrive because I can put the pedal in the middle of the boat and babysit guide clients in the front and back of the boat without running a marathon during the day. I also like the PowerDrive low-profile foot pedal, it's very easy on my back. HOWEVER, I do NOT like the stow and deploy system for the PowerDrive trolling motors and would rather not deal with that on the new boat. I loved my PinPoint trolling motor, it used the MotorGuide Gator Mount with the "yank on the rope" stow/deploy system, it had a low profile foot pedal and the depth control feature was great! If I or a client stuck a big fish, it was simple to hit depth control and the trolling motor wouldn't allow the boat to be blown into shallower water. I see where MotorGuide bought PinPoint and has taken that technology, putting it into their Digital series. I know, I know, I've not been the biggest fan of MotorGuide Trolling Motors in the past. However, does anyone have any experience with the new Digital PTSv motors? Here's a link to that series of motors. http://www.motorguide.com/index.pl/ptsv_tracking4 It seems to have all the features I'm looking for, low profile foot pedal, soft cable so I could move the foot pedal anywhere in the boat and it's available in 36 volt with 105 pounds of thrust and it even has the depth control! If anyone out there has heard anything positive or negative, please let me know. Thanks, -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |
