What is the best line for pike spinning.

Currently I use braid, its tough and flexible
but I am wondering if the obviously visible line could
be spooking the fish.

I make my own traces, very easy.
Just buy a length of wire trace and put swivel and snap links on.

Any advice on the choice of rod weight and length for still water trout
fishing in the UK?

I am planning to get a 'posh' rod for my birthday and want to get the
right size.
