line care

i know i should clean my rod and line every time i use them, but how often
should i apply dressing to my line, and what is the best method for
application- fingers, rag, or what?

It depends on the kind of water you're fishing. I certainly don't clean
my flyline every time out when I'm fishing my crystal-clear freestone
homewaters, and I only dress it if it starts sinking. OTOH, on a
relatively "dirty" river like the San Juan, I clean and dress the line
every day, and I might dress it a few times throughout the day if it
starts sinking.

BTW, having a clean, well floating line is just as important when
dead-drift nymphing as it is in dry-fly fishing. It's very hard to mend
a sinking line effectively.

I use a mild detergent to clean the line and Mucillin to dress it. I use
the applicator to apply the dressing and wipe off the excess with a
clean rag or paper towel.

Well, I know I should clean my rod every time I use it, but sometimes I
don't have time to do it. And when I get the chance to clean it...chances
are I want to use it right away once I get it out.

I try to polish my line every so often - it helps me use my rod more...

Two guys are sitting around drinking, and naturally, the subject of, er,
