Tournament Question
Weigh in is at 2:45!!!
Exactly what does that mean as far as where you are suppose to be by 2:45? a) at the launch site/ramp/basin b) at the scales ready to be weighed c) at the scales completley weighed by 2:45 Before you ask, that is all that is said in the weigh in rule. "Weigh in is at 2:45" thats it. I am intrested to hear the replies As you can probably tell by me asking this question my Tourney didn't go off to well and the above question was the final straw in a struggling day. Caught some fish missed some bigger ones, our 4 best fish out of 6 would have been a mere 4 pounds out of first had we not been DQ'd. Trolling motor catches on fire at around 9:30, so I was left drifting, Main cranking battery dies at 12:45, steering cable locks up at about 1:30. A big storm come up at around 2:00 with lightning in it. Most people head in, we are fishing literally 5 minutes for the basin looking for a last minuite fish in a big fish spot. At 2:38 by our watches we leave, but it has been 5 or 10 minutes since the last boat headed in, and it is now raining cats and dogs. We arrive by 2:42 in at the ramp, and the weigh in is done and the guy doing the check in clamis it is 2:55 and we are DQ'd.. This is after we go get weigh in bags, which he gave my partner and never said a thing, then at the scales he claims it is 2:55. After I complain, and get the boat on the trailer, with a limping steering cable, my truck clock says 2:57, so 2 minutes to complain, and get my boat on the trailer, locked and teathered down and back to the weigh in station.. Either they just got tired of standing in the rain, or I dont understand what the "implied" meaning of Weigh in is at 2:45!!! --- Chuck Coger http://www.fishin-pro.com |

Tournament Question
Official time. Most of the tournaments I fish launch out of the same
harbor. If we are in the harbor in the immediate area of the weigh dock NOT FISHING we are in on time. Basically you should be in line to weigh in at weigh in time. At the start of each tournement the tournament director usually announces official time. If I don't hear it I will ask for official time, and then I will set my watch a couple minutes ahead of that. It is possible that you got stiffed. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. Almost all tournament rules say that the director's word is final. If it is a club tournement I would attend a club meeting and ask that the weigh in time be clarified and official time be announced prior to the tournement start. If you approach this politely and you get nothing but attitude then I suggest you vote with your wallet and fish with another group. If you truly feel cheated and don't care if you make enemies of some of the group then go so far as to publicly demand your money back for club dues. Note: Official time is almost always based on the tournament director's watch. Not on a standard universal time broadcast, an internet check to the conservatory in Boulder Colorado or the radio or any other semi precise measurement. -- Bob La Londe Yuma, Az http://www.YumaBassMan.com |

Tournament Question
When we sign in at our club tournaments, we are given a chip to place on the
key ring. If the "Officials" say that the tournament ends at 12:00, then our chips are to be in the bucket by 12:00. If you get there at 12:01, there is no bucket, and you know you're DQ'ed. If they said that "Weigh-In" was at 2:45, then I would taken that to mean that weigh-in began at 2:45. I'd probably be out of the boat and waiting for it to start at 2:30. Tournament Question
Tournaments I have fished used the terminology of "check-in time" or
"weight-in time" interchangebly. What is meant is that you have to check-in with a person placed so he can see you as you arrive at the weigh-in site. You check your boat number in and make sure he logs you on the clipboard. 2:45 pm means being checked in on that clipboard before 2:46 pm and it is by official time. That is the tournment directors time which he should have announced both at the pre-tournement meeting the night before and that morning prior to launch, when you checked in. If there are any doubts, ask the obvious questions. |

Tournament Question
I agree, however that "check-in" place was never designated in the rules.
Most of the tourneys I fished in Florida it would mean (and it again is usually assumed) be in the basin by 2:45, where indeed you are checked off. So I may not be able to weigh my fish until 2:55, and would still be checked in on time. I should also mention that we did check the offical time and we were right on it in the morning during launch, not sure to the second but our minutes did match. Lastly it was not the tournament director himself that DQ'd us, nor did they check with his official time since he was absent at the moment, the guy doing the weighing used his watch, and we can only assume it was right. Anyway it was just the straw that broke the camels back on a bad day, and I challenged the principal of not designated a place in the rules to check in. This makes me question every single person that weghed in fish. Since there were 2 flights and 2 weigh in times, without a proper check in can the prove everyone with fish were on time? I would suspect not. Like Charles I have fished a few that did the chip process, only we dropped them in a net, that makes things a lot easier. That way you know for sure, and if a boat is in trouble you know to go look for them. oh well, I just think some people melt when they get wet, and that is why they closed up early. --- Chuck Coger http://www.fishin-pro.com "Carlos" wrote in message ... Tournament Question
Sounds like you got a major shtupping there. Without the official time, all
bets are off. As far as how it goes out here in the west as well as in BASS: The terms, time due in, / check in, / weigh in / are all interchangable. What they all mean is that you are back inside the no wake bouys of the host marina, and have stopped fishing by that time. Almost always, if you are seen racing in, the officials will acknowledge that you are back even if you didn't cross the line exactly on the time stated. The premise being that it is better to run safe and offer a few seconds of leeway. This does not apply beyond 30-60 seconds However, I was once the unfortunate competator in a major western tourney. Another boat and myself were close to the DQ time and were racing back to the marina. He was the length of his boat ahead. The official ruled the guy in front crossed the line at the DQ time. I was behind him, so I was "late" and DQ'd for that day's catch. Needless to say I was seriously PO'd, not only because I throttled back to remain safe a couple times going across the bay, but we were visable coming in a good 2 miles off and were obviously on our way in. Mind you I admit the fault is originally mine for cutting it that close. We were withing 10 miles of the marina and delayed heading in too long. However, the ruling in any case, was way out of hand. It was for BS like that (and a whole lot worse) that I haven't fished that circuit for 10 years now. Pulled all my advertising from their publications, and refuse to promote or sponsor their tournies or publications anymore. Sometimes you just have to decide what you are willing to put up with. Tournament Question
Had the exact same thing happen to me Dan.. . in a damn club tourney though
! Guy in front of us was considered inside the no wake bouy so he was ok, we were yards behind. Spose it's true we all know the quit time. Just wondering if we take ourselves a little to seriously though somtimes when it comes to splitting hairs. -- God Bless America Josh The Bad Bear |
