In 2004 there was a very famous case of a 14 yr. old teenager fishing off a Ocean Kayak in
Ocean Counny New Jersey. The kid caught a 52.5 lb. Striped Bass from his Kayak using 12lb.
test live lining a bunker.

Hmmm, interesting...

(2) with one busy kayaker
paddling away and nobody paying attention to the line, would DFG
consider that an untended line (like a set line).


Here in Texas, the laws apply to rod and pole or NOT rod and pole (i.e.,
traps, jug lines, trot lines) but don't go into whether or not it is tended.

Not sure what you would call a line tied to the back of the boat with no
pole, tho...

Dragging a fishing line behind any water craft is called trolling.

The legality could depend on the state you are in, which river, which
section of the river, which fish you catch while trolling, the time of
year, even hook size and type of bait. Snagging salmon might or not be
legal, so if you snagged one, you might technically be in violation.

I'm thinking two things, (1) the kayak would be moving too fast much of
