Default Looking for fishing accessory

Hi
I am looking for a fishing accessory which I used to use 10-20 years ago for
freshwater fishing. It was a small sky-blue one-piece plastic device that
clamped on your rod handle before the reel. It had a simple ball bdearing
inside, and the idea was to clip your line into it. If a fish took your bait
and ran the line would pop out letting the line run freely.
I use to use it for trout fishing combined with a sliding egg sinker. I
remember back then that this style of baitfishing was popular with some
walleye fishermen in the midwest. Anyway, I can't seem to find this little
device anywhere, and hell I don't even know what to call it. Only fishermen
seem to be able to picture it based on my description of what it does.
If anyone knows where I can order this item, or something real close to it,
or even what the heck to call it, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks a bunch

Make it simple on yourself ..take a rubber band "a thick one" 1/4 in
wide that would just fit over your thumb. Slide that up your rod
handle to just below your reel but still on the cork/foam rubber part
of your handle. It should be snug. Anyhow open you bail and pull a
little line out and put the loop under the rubber band...leave the
bail open and when the fish bite he pull the loop out from under the
rubber and he gets the free spool till you close the bail. Keeps you
from loosing your rod/reel to a big one also. If you would like more
fishing questions answered stop in at http://sea4two.net or email me
at P.S. I have seen what you want or just like
it a a wal-mart here in Daytona Fl.

The line release,, very popular, I use them my self for cat fishing,
mine is a broken piece of Styrofoam from a coffee cup, slice a little
3/8 or so slit so your line can slip in the slice, put this behind the
end eye of you rod, it will hold the line until the fish just touches
the bait, then it pops off letting the line free spool

A piece of very thin card board, like the hang tag on a bag of hooks, or
a lure box, cig. box, worm container, heck anything you find along the
bank, heck anything, and it does the same thing with the slit,, At one
time I made them from thin rubber, but I just kept loosing them

I usually pull the line almost tight then slip the home made release
behind that last eye, some times I will hand a big loop of line down
from that eye, and have my bail flipped closed, so they only take about
ten feet, then the drag hits them and sets the hook. This works real
well when using circle hooks.

I have used the rubber band like you talk about but I put a popsicle
stick under it, then the line goes under the stick, it just seamed to
work easier, I didn't have to pull the band up, just the end of the
stick to get the line under it
