The Maker's Rod Rafle 2004

A Unique Stream Conservation Fundraising Project
The Makers Rod 2004 is an extraordinary bamboo fly-rod presentation package
that is being raffled for a special cause - stream conservation on the
fabled AuSable River and Manistee Rivers in North central Michigan.

For the rod-makers who participated in construction of the Makers Rod 2004,
the project has been an opportunity to demonstrate love of their craft and
concern for our fisheries resources. For one lucky individual, it will be an
opportunity to win an exceptional bamboo fly rod and accessory prize
package.

The Makers Rod Raffle 2004 project, sponsored by the Trout Bum Bar-B-Q, a
Michigan non-profit organization, is a most unique undertaking in several
respects. The centerpiece of the grand prize presentation package is a 7'
4-weight, 2-piece, 2-tipped bamboo fly rod; this rod has been built
according to the taper specifications of the Dickerson "7012" bamboo fly
rod.

Eighteen cane-rod makers from the U.S. and Canada each hand planed one of
the triangular strips, six of which are glued together to form the familiar
hexagonal shape of a bamboo fly rod. Other rod makers contributed components
or assisted with the assembly and final finish of the rod.

In addition to this distinctive cane rod, the Makers Rod 2004 grand prize
package includes:

Not only is each component of the grand prize presentation package a
uniquely handcrafted work, but also the raffle tickets are themselves
limited edition pieces of art!

Noted Michigan artist David Ruimveld has contributed a stunning image of a
Michigan Grayling and vintage tackle on a riverside gravel background. The
Michigan Grayling, originally a native resident of the AuSable River, became
extinct in the early 1900's, a result of extreme fishing pressure combined
with destruction of habitat caused by logging in the late 19th and early
20th centuries.
